Deterrent, the novel

Deterrent

The US Immigration issues and how to protect our borders can use the deterrent premise in this novel to build the walls and devices (ground lasers and satellite lasers to thwart illegals).  Everyone politician should read this novel in order to learn how to have futuristic thoughts towards preventing crime and protecting our borders.

Following years of fighting terrorism in the U.S.A. and worldwide, the fight to maintain crime levels has been neglected. Crime is at its highest levels in the U.S., and Vice President Mokski has been unable to convince the president to build a deterrent to crime. There are three mysterious attempts to assassinate the president. Unfortunately, the Maryland governor and close friend of the president is framed and brought to trial. The president’s testimony convicts his friend and causes him to have a major stroke, which ultimately results in his resignation. Mokski becomes president and orders the building of a compound that will be a deterrent to crime. Laws and constitutional amendments are changed. Governor Booth is placed in the compound before he can be cleared by his attorney friend, Webb. All jails and prisons are emptied and shut down as all long-term prisoners are transferred into the compound. Will Webb and Booth weave everything together to somehow get Booth out so that together they confront the true conspirators?

Retiree's first novel a socio-political crime thriller
R. Merial Martin
ExxonMobil Retiree News Article

Framed for a crime he didn't commit, an eastern Governor is convicted and thrown into a sprawling wilderness prison compound built by his nemesis, who is now President of the United States. One man is in a race to save him. Retiree Richard Merial Martin's first novel, Deterrent, is written in vivid, break-neck style, one reviewer praised as akin to seeing a fast-paced movie, rather than reading a book. Through the device of the huge prison compound, encompassing an area the size of several western counties, built to hold all the nations criminals in a kind of brutal internal Devil’s Island, Martin explores the conflicting desires and choices of any free society craving safety and security.

Loved the style. Can't wait for the sequel (II). Felt like I had just watched a movie. More writers should use this style. I learned that the author is inspired by the great Harry Essex who wrote many movie scripts. Recommend our legislators read this one. It does make you think.

"Easy reading that leads to expansive thinking" Makes you think about what minimal crime in the USA would mean to you and those you love. Makes you think of ideas that would act as a deterrent to crime. Makes you think about a world where the 10 commandments are obeyed. Makes you think of a world where atheists obey the ten commandments not because of God but because of federal laws. Makes you think of the impact that a compound where once you enter there is no way to be released. And makes you think of how the ACLU would fight this if given the time which does not happen in the book. Makes you think about children being born in the compound without the rights of the abiding free citizenry outside. Makes you think about whether prisioners can have relationships and build families. Makes you wonder what type of weapons might be found with the compound. Makes you wonder if prisoners can live off the land as early pioneers did. Makes you think of a USA where 'diplomatic immunity' means that those foreigners who commit crimes never see their country again. Makes you think about whether prisioners can build their own society because of the quote unquote 'freedom within the walls on millions of acres' they now enhabit. Makes you think about the mandatory viewing of weekly broadcasts from inside the compound showing inmates killing and torturing each other and whether it is true or just a Hollywood production. Makes you think about whether the key people in government and the Supreme Court could secretly enact law changes that make such a deterrent constitutional. Makes you think about a drug-free USA. Makes you think about lower taxes from the closure of jails and prisons and approximately $100,000 a year that won't be used to support a prisoner, jobs for everyone who needs to work, and about a USA where courts are not backlogged and lawyers are not in Demand anymore.

A sports glove holder for allowing a glove to be attached comfortably and securely to the belt of a player. The sports glove holder has loops for attaching the holder to the belt of the player. A hook and loop fastener allows the glove to be removably attached to the holder. The hook and loop fastener is attached to a machine-pressed indent in the main body using a material specific adhesive. This allows the device to withstand the repetitive removal of the glove without fear of the hook and loop fastener coming loose. The sports glove holder can be color coordinated with the uniform or outfit worn by the player.
